The BFW is an Austrian federal, multidisciplinary research and training centre which holds the legal status of an institution under public law. Six specialist departments focus on research in forest monitoring, provenance and seed research, forest protection issues, natural hazards and many more. This research is closely linked to training in two of their Training Centres. The BFW is also the first contact for politics, administration and praxis for forest-related questions and provides forest-information as a competent contact point for public. Founded in 1874, with 275 employees nowadays, it is also responsible for the implementation of the Plant Protection Act 2011, the Act of Forest Reproductive Material 2003 and the EU Timber Regulation 2010 and more. Thankful to BFW we are lucky to announce that there will be three interns working in the BFW to support the IFSS2016 and do public relations for the event.
