The Tyrolean Forestry Board (Landesforstdirektion Tirol) are administrating the Western region of Tyrol with its 505.762 ha of forest area (40% of the total area of Tyrol). Its task is the best possible administration of forest and forest related areas which are put under its responsibility.
The areas are mostly situated in mountainous regions where the maintanence of the protective function of forests is essential. 37% of the Tyrolean forests are owned by communities, 36% are privately owned, 22% belong to the Austrian Federal Forests and 5% are owned by municipalities.
The Tyrolean Forest Administration takes on many competences and tasks, for example forest information, subsidies, forest management planning, public relations and many more, which are carried out by 10 Forest Inspection offices.
